Dear Valued ASPRI Members,

Accident Notification: Worker Struck by Falling Objects at Warehouse

On 23 December 2019, a worker was struck by falling objects in a warehouse. Goods stacked on pallets were found to have toppled over. The worker succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Ministry of Manpower has commenced investigations into the accident.

The industry is reminded to conduct a comprehensive Risk Assessment for all work activities in a warehouse or storage area. The risk of stacked goods toppling over should be identified and adequate control measures implemented such as the use of engineered storage racks. Goods placed on pallets may be stretch-wrapped to prevent them from falling off the pallet. The industry should also consider implementing a buddy system so that emergency response (including first aid) can be rendered promptly in the event of an accident.

Information on the accident is based on preliminary investigations by the Ministry of Manpower as at 24 December 2019. This may be subject to change as investigations are still on-going.
