Outreach to MOE cleaners on WSH and Skills Upgrading
The Union Care Centre and Building Construction & Timber Industries’ Employees’ Union, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, organised a series of 12 engagement sessions in June 2019. Close to 3,000 school cleaners learnt about workplace safety and health (WSH), skills upgrading, and how the Progressive Wage Model benefits the cleaning workforce.
As one of the supporting organisations, the WSH Council and WSH Facilities Management Committee members shared the risks and hazards associated with cleaning activities, such as slips, trips and falls; one of the major contributory hazards for the cleaning industry. Case studies and the lessons learnt were also shared during the sessions.Participants found the sessions useful and informative, as it helped to raise their awareness on the potential risks associated with their work and how they can mitigate them to prevent injuries and accidents at the workplace.
The event was also supported by the Ministry of Manpower, Central Provident Fund Board, SkillsFuture Singapore, Health Promotion Board and the WSH Council.
