Tapping Potential of Robots for PCM Industry

28 November 2019

Robots can be mobilised to make life a lot easier. Not only can they sweep and clean floors, deliver meals and medications in hospitals, they can also clean hulls and conduct field patrols on construction sites.

At the Technology Demonstration Day held at the ASPRI Integrated Training Centre (AITC) on 28 November 2019, over 100 ASPRI members, plant owners, technology service providers and curious onlookers learned at first hand the endless potential of robots in supporting the process industry. Organised by the ASPRI’s Digitalisation and Technology Adoption (DITA) Workgroup in collaboration with SPRINT Robotics, the first by DITA, the event featured presentations and demonstrations by well renowned companies like Baker Hughes GE Inspection Robotics, Eddyfi, Olympus, ROSEN and more.

Some of the technology presented that day were:

  • Vanta Handheld XRF Series by Olympus – an advanced handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) device that provides rapid, accurate element analysis and alloy identification to customers who demand laboratory-quality results in the field;
  • TBIT by ROSEN – using a combination of Magnetic Flux Leakage and Eddy Current technologies, the TBIT is able to detect and size corrosion defects and determine the precise location of the defects, whether they are on top or the bottom of the steel plates; and
  • AutoBox ABX-3L by StoneAge – an automated system for hands-free tube bundle that offers safe and efficient tube cleaning in the harshest exchanger environments, providing consistent cleaning in both directions which produces better results in less time.
