Since beginning of 2017, there has been five vehicle-related fatalities. Three of the five cases were road-traffic accidents. The other two cases involved loading and unloading works. Details of the five fatalities are as follow:
11 February 2017 – A worker parked her van on a slope and was ran over by it when it rolled forward towards her. To read the Accident Notification, click here.

04 May 2017 – A Worker was unloading cargo from his truck when he fell off the truck’s tailgate.

09 May 2017 – A forklift loading steel bars onto a lorry dropped the bars onto the lorry driver who was standing nearby.

09 May 2017 – A lorry driver was killed when a prime mover approaching from the opposite direction encroached into the lorry’s lane and crashed into him.

The WSH Council urges the industry to stay vigilant on workplace safety and health. Employers should conduct a thorough Risk Assessment (RA) before commencing work and ensure that their workers are familiar with the implemented risk control measures or safe practices. Employers should remind drivers to keep themselves and other road users safe. Drivers should be aware of road traffic conditions, not to be distracted or reckless when driving
