[Important] Invitation to participate in Industry Consultation on Legislative Changes

Following the fatal explosion and fire in Tuas on 24 February 2021, an Inquiry Committee (IC) was convened to look into the circumstances and causes that led to the accident, and make recommendations to prevent recurrences. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) had earlier accepted the IC’s recommendations, and is now proposing to make legislative changes to implement the recommendations. The legislative changes include:

a. Expansion of the Fifth Schedule of the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSH Act) to cover more machinery, equipment and combustible dusts
b. Notification to MOM and building owner or landlord by users of combustible dusts
c. Labelling of combustible dusts.

As such, ASPRI is assisting MOM to gather industry’s views and comments on the proposed legislative changes for machinery , equipment, and combustible dust.
