Workplace Safety and Health Council appoints new members for FY2019
With effect from 1 April 2019, the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council has appointed two new members and re-appointed three of its current members.
New appointments
- Dr Eugene Fidelis Soh, Chief Executive Officer, Tan Tock Seng Hospital & Central Health, Singapore, and Chairman, Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) Co-Learning Network.
- Mr Silas Sng, Divisional Director, Occupational Safety and Health Division, Ministry of Manpower.
Re-appointments
- Prof Chia Kee Seng, Professor, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore.
- Mr Derek Teo, Chief Executive Officer, Steadfast Distribution Services Pte Ltd.
- Er Ho Siong Hin, Senior Director (International WSH), Ministry of Manpower.

Construction worksites no longer need to be registered with MOM from 1 April 2019
From 1 April 2019, MOM will no longer require construction worksites to apply factory registration and will also cease processing such applications.
This is part of the Government’s efforts to streamline business processes. Previously, construction companies need to make separate applications to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for a permit to carry out structural works, and to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to register their construction worksite, before the companies are able to start work. From 1 April 2019, construction companies will only need to apply for BCA’s permit, rather than make two separate applications. Information required by MOM for construction worksite registration will be integrated into BCA’s permit application. Construction companies will save around S$1.7 million annually in one-time worksite registration fees as there is no need to make a separate payment for worksite registration.
Requirements under existing workplace safety and health regulations (e.g. WSH (Construction) Regulations, WSH (SHMS and Auditing) Regs) will still apply to construction worksites for compliance.
