
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 14 September 2023 — The Association of Process Industry (ASPRI) of Singapore, The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC), The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and The Myanmar Oil and Gas Services Society (MOGSS) have joined hands in a historic move to enhance cooperation and drive advancements in the Oil, Gas & Energy and Process Industry, within the ASEAN region.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed at the Oil and Gas Asia (OGA) 2023 exhibition today, aims to foster greater collaboration and synergies between the countries and reflect ASPRI, MOGSC, ASMI and MOGSS commitments to advance the interests of Oil, Gas & Energy and Process industries within the ASEAN region, contributing to greater economic growth.

Key highlights of the MOU include:
• Resource Sharing: The parties will engage in the exchange of valuable resources, including skilled manpower, expertise, and knowledge, to address the workforce requirements of their respective industries.
• Training and Development: Collaborative efforts will be made to explore joint training and development programs aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of the workforce within the process industry.
• Research and Innovation: Organizations will encourage and support collaborative research and development initiatives, seeking to improve operational processes, technologies, and sustainability within their industries.
• Networking and Information Sharing: Regular meetings and forums will be organized to facilitate dialogue, the sharing of best practices, and the establishment of a strong network of industry professionals across the ASEAN region.
Mr. Danny Chua, President of ASPRI’s 14th Executive Council, expressed his enthusiasm and support for the collaboration. He said, “We believe that this strategic partnership with MOGSC, ASMI and MOGSS will foster innovation, improve workforce development, and create a stronger, more sustainable future for the process industries in our region.”
Ts. Syed Saggaf Syed Ahmad, President of MOGSC, in his speech spoke of South East Asia as home to a 650 million population. He highlighted that the population in this region contributed to a 6.5% GDP growth rate with a growing economy. The current GDP is projected to be 4.7 trillion dollar in 2030 from its current 3.6 trillion dollar. He added that South East Asia is where the action will be and is geared to be a big economy moving forward.
This MOU is important in ensuring that the Oil, Gas & Energy and Process Industry can remain resilient and competitive with the aim to foster greater collaboration and synergies between all countries and reflects our commitments to advance the interests of Oil, Gas & Energy and Process industries within the ASEAN region, contributing to greater economic growth. It heralds the start of a promising future for this region with all parties playing an important role in unifying this region in the space of the industry.
Mr. Simon Kuik, President of ASMI, emphasised the importance of collective action. He remarked, “Singapore and Malaysia share a longstanding tradition of economic collaboration, and we’re delighted to formalise this partnership agreement, which aligns with our international expansion efforts, especially as the world moves towards cleaner energy sources. This collaboration strengthens our engineering, procurement, and construction capabilities, benefiting our energy customers in the oil and gas and liquefied natural gas sectors, while ensuring global access to reliable and affordable energy. Additionally, as ASEAN members, this partnership also emphasises our commitment to fostering regional cooperation and cleaner energy solutions in Southeast Asia, including our engagement with Myanmar. We’re grateful to our partners for their trust and for joining us in this significant regional partnership, which opens doors to investments and innovation in green energy, expediting the transition to cleaner energy sources and creating sustainable business prospects in our region and beyond.”
